Draft Pick Redo: Chase Winovich, EDGE, Michigan instead of Devin Singletary
When we talked about the Patriots, I swapped their actual draft pick with a Bills selection. Here, I am swapping a Bills’ pick with a player who actually ended up on the Patriots.
There is a lot to like about the Bills’ 2019 NFL draft class. They absolutely nailed their first two picks, adding Ed Oliver and Cody Ford to their defensive and offensive fronts. Their third-round selection of tight end Dawson Knox was also impressive, but taking Florida Atlantic running back Devin Singletary earlier in the third was not ideal.
Singletary is a shifty back who could easily end up being a nice player for the Bills. That being said, his lack of functional speed concerns me and I simply did not love the value of taking him early in the third. Snagging Michigan edge rusher Chase Winovich here would have made more sense.
Winovich shows impressive speed and quickness as a pass rusher, bending around the edge with ease. He also shows nice counter moves, is a dependable run defender and plays with a high motor. Simply put, Winovich is going to be a big-time asset for the Patriots. The Bills really missed the boat here, as Winovich would have been an impact player at a major position of need.
