Way-too-early 2020 NFL mock draft: Getting to know the 2020 class
The San Francisco 49ers will not be able to count on 31-year-old cornerback Richard Sherman forever. This team has done a nice job of building a dynamic defensive line, but they simply must get younger in the secondary. In this 2020 NFL mock draft, the 49ers find a dynamic playmaker at the cornerback position in Trevon Diggs out of Alabama.
Diggs is the younger brother of Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs and shows similar athletic upside. The younger Diggs missed most of 2018 with a foot injury but has shown real playmaking ability when he has been on the field for Alabama. He has only been a full-time cornerback for one season, but Diggs shows good ball skills and instincts for the position. Add in his great speed and athleticism and his upside at cornerback is obvious.
Diggs is also a dynamic return specialist who will undoubtedly be a threat in that area from the start of his NFL career. The 49ers swing for the fences here at a major position of need.
I could certainly see the Vikings going back to the offensive line in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The addition of first-round center Garrett Bradbury this off season will undoubtedly help, but they still have needs on the offensive line. However, there is a better value selection available here at another position of need. With the 22nd pick of this 2020 NFL mock draft, the Vikings snag Alabama defensive tackle, Raekwon Davis.
Davis is a big and long defensive lineman who uses his length extremely well to keep distance between himself and the opposing blocker. He is a stout run defender who consistently keeps proper pad level and can hold an anchor extremely well. He also flashes some upside as a one-gap penetrator and an interior pass rusher, showing solid quickness, great power and impressive hand usage.
Davis is a rock-solid interior defensive line prospect who could come in and help solidify an important position of need for the Vikings.
