Birmingham Iron: Luis Perez

College: Texas A&M-Commerce

AAF coach: Tim Lewis (HC) // Steve Logan (OC/QBs)

One of the more fascinating quarterback/coach pairings in the AAF this year is between Birmingham Iron quarterback Luis Perez and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Steve Logan.

Logan has been a football coach for a really long time, getting his start as an assistant high school coach back in 1975.

Through the years, Logan worked with the Berlin Thunder and Rhein Fire of the aforementioned NFL Europe where he worked with Dave Ragone and Rohan Davey, two very successful NFL Europe quarterbacks.

After NFL Europe, Logan went to Boston College and spent a year helping develop 2008 first-round draft choice Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons.

Now he will be working with Luis Perez, who was most recently a member of the Los Angeles Rams after a dominant career at Division II Texas A&M-Commerce.

Perez didn’t ultimately make it with the Rams, but he’s considered to be one of the most intriguing players in this league. He allegedly taught himself the nuances of the quarterback position through YouTube after not playing a single down of high school football.

Birmingham was already fascinating for the fact that they have Trent Richardson on the team. Perez makes them even more so and might be the guy NFL teams are most excited about seeing.
