The Minnesota Vikings have such a great roster at this point in time, it’s hard to see their first-round picks as anything but a luxury.

This team is not exempt from roster needs, but they truly do have the luxury of taking the best player available on their board and can afford to look into the future at players who may ultimately just provide depth for a year or two before taking on a bigger, more prominent role.

Jeffery Simmons is a very good defensive lineman out of Mississippi State and even though the Vikings don’t have a pressing need in their starting lineup for a player like him, they have shown signs this year of needing some depth on the defensive front.

Whether outside or inside, the Vikings could be in the market for players with Simmons’ size, length, and playmaking ability to make sure the real strength of their defense — the linebackers and secondary — are protected.
