The type of cuts that sting the most for teams are those that end up benefitting an arch rival. Cincinnati felt that pain in the worst way with this one. The Bengals drafted Kelly Gregg out of Oklahoma in the 6th round in 1999. He wasn’t able to make the final roster, which is shocking given how bad the team was in those days. The decision would come back to haunt them.

Gregg spent that year in Philadelphia. In 2000, he was waived and picked up by the Baltimore Ravens who sent him to mature in NFL Europe for the season. When he returned, he was ready to go. By 2002 he became their starting nose tackle and would hold that job for the next eight seasons, standing in the middle of one of the best defenses of that era. A team the Bengals would constantly struggle with.
