NFL Power Ranking Preseason Edition: NFC only gets better
There’s very little I like about the Miami Dolphins going into this season, and it all starts with the quarterbacks. Ryan Tannehill has never been better than average, and coming off multiple knee surgeries won’t help. Having Brock Osweiler, David Fales, and Bryce Petty behind him doesn’t exactly give me any confidence they can win without a healthy Tannehill, which even then I’m skeptical.
Miami does have some very good playmakers with Kenny Stills, DeVante Parker, Danny Amendola, and rookie Mike Gesicki, who I think will take the league by storm and be the next Jimmy Graham. Frank Gore is a quality veteran to have in a young running back room, and we’ll see if Kenyan Drake can take the next step towards being a starter. Kalen Ballage is another rookie to watch if he gets an opportunity.
Can the offensive line hold up beyond Laremy Tunsil and Josh Sitton? I have major questions surrounding Ja’Wuan James and Jesse Davis, who did improve through last year.
I think Miami also made some quality additions through the draft on defense with Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jerome Baker. I think Baker can surpass Kiko Alonso as the starting WILL and be a quality starter for many years. I don’t love their interior linemen, and we’ll see how Robert Quinn holds up.
There’s young talent in Miami, but I don’t think they have the franchise quarterback, or even an above-average quarterback, to get them far. They’re an easy team to mock a quarterback to in the first round going into the season.
