The Seattle Seahawks have been among the more aggressive teams on the trade market over the past few years and it looks like they’re at it again.

Per usual they are right in the thick of the playoffs hunt but it’s become clear they have a fatal flaw that could once again derail their hopes. That being the offensive line. It was average at best of the past couple years but this season it seems to have hit rock bottom. Russell Wilson has been sacked 14 times and hit a host of others. As a team Seattle is also averaging just 3.9 yards per carry on the ground.

Thus far the great bulking of their success at reaching 4-2 is thanks to the efforts of their always excellent defense. The unit has allowed more than 18 points in a game one time this season. That makes life easy on an offense. However, this is a veteran team. They know that strong defense and passable offense aren’t good enough to advance in the playoffs. Something must be done.

According to Ian Rapoport, they have an idea in mind they’re trying to work.

Brown at odds with Houston Texans over contract, opening window

For a time it looked like Duane Brown had all the leverage in the world. The Texans offensive line was atrocious to start the season. As the games went on though they’ve adjusted and rookie QB Deshaun Watson is on a tear. Suddenly it looks like Brown isn’t so vital to their future success. This puts the Pro Bowl tackle’s future in question. Always sensing an opportunity, the Seahawks no doubt see him as a short-term solution to their own problem.

Brown would instantly stabilize the blind size of Wilson, giving him more security to seek out his targets through the air. Would it be enough to ease their other issues up front? That’s unknown. One thing that’s clear is it would make a good team better, even at the cost of surrendering a still solid weapon at tight end in Jimmy Graham.
