This 2018 NFL mock draft is going to explore a possibility that has gained steam in recent weeks, one that has to do with the quarterbacks.

First off is the growing believe that top prospect Sam Darnold will be returning to USC. A rumor that is gaining steam with several insiders. Then there’s the uneven play in general from most of the other major names involved. This could create a unique scenario where the quarterbacks might not determine the top five picks like they almost always do each year. Per usual it’s the Cleveland Browns who start the wackiness.

1. Cleveland Browns

The last time a running back went first overall in the draft was way back in 1995. His name was Ki-Jana Carter and he was a star at Penn State. It seems so fitting that 23 years later another Nittany Lion would be the one to break that streak in Saquon Barkley. He looks and feels like the best back to come out of college in at least a decade. He can run with power, speed, showcases elite athleticism, is a willing blocker and catches passes out of the backfield.
Up to this point the Cleveland Browns have shown they’re about acquiring the best talent possible for their team. Even though he’s a running back, Barkley will be the top player on a lot of boards next spring. If the Browns are committed to DeShone Kizer like they continue to say, then they need to start surrounding him with weapons. A feature back who can do everything on the field would be an ideal way to start.
. RB. Penn State. Saquon Barkley . 1. player. 53
