Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens: 5 Things to Watch
By Andrew Kim
How will DeShone Kizer do against a formidable defense in the Ravens with their upgraded secondary and linebackers?
DeShone Kizer had a pretty good debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 1. Kizer went 20 pass completions in 30 pass attempts, throwing 222 yards with one passing touchdown and one interception. He showed good poise against an above average defense in the Steelers but did hold the ball a lot more than he should have. The Browns offensive line did not do him any favors as they gave up seven sacks but some of it is on the quarterback not throwing the ball away. Coleman could have a breakout year as the featured receiver as Kizer’s go-to target. According to Pro Football Focus, Kizer had a 150.4 passer rating and caught his five targets for 53 yards with 1 receiving touchdown.
The Baltimore Ravens defense could be a Top 5 defense this year and make DeShone Kizer pay for potential rookie mistakes.
The signings of Tony Jefferson, Brandon Carr, and resigning Ladarius Webb have paid dividends so far as they all made impactful plays, including Jimmy Smith. Linebackers C.J. Mosely and Patrick Onwuasor also made plays that lead to turnovers as this defense snagged four interceptions as the Ravens pulled a shutout on the Cincinnati Bengals in week 1.
According to Pro Football Focus, C.J. Mosely was the top linebacker graded for week 1, leading the team with five tackles and one interception. Kizer might have to play a near flawless game to get the offense going against this Ravens defense.
