D’Onta Foreman was one of the several young promising running backs drafted this year

Houston Texans running back D’Onta Foreman was arrested early Sunday morning for carrying two ounces or less of marijuana and unlawfully carrying a weapon, according to Brian Davis of Hookem.com.

Foreman, an All-American at Texas, was arrested by university police at 3 a.m. Sunday morning, and released on bond around noon.

University of Texas Police Department spokeswoman Cindy Posey released a statement to the American-Statesman saying multiple people were cited after police responded to a call reporting the smell of marijuana.

"The officers “responded to a report of the smell of marijuana coming from three occupied vehicles near the southwest side of San Jacinto residence hall on campus,” the statement read. “Officers arrived on the scene discovered marijuana in each vehicle and also discovered a firearm in one of them.“The owner of the firearm, D’Onta Foreman, was arrested for Unlawful Carrying of Weapons and Possession of Marijuana and booked into Travis County Jail. Six other male suspects were cited and released for Possession of Marijuana.”"

A third-round pick by the Texans, Foreman is expected to compete for a backup role behind veteran Lamar Miller. Foreman did not participate in the NFL Scouting Combine this year after suffering a small s

Recipient of the  Doan Walker award, given to the nation’s top running back, Foreman rushed for over 2,000 yards in his third season for the Longhorns before declaring for the NFL Draft.

The NFL has the authority to suspend Foreman under the personal conduct policy, meaning he could miss the season opener against Jacksonville at home. Any suspension stemming from solely the arrest and not a failed drug test would likely be fewer than four games.
