Atlanta Falcons – 2012

Was this draft he residual effect of the Julio Jones trade? Yeah, probably. The Falcons went into it without a 1st round pick. They compounded that problem by clearly going in with an agenda. That being the improvement of their offensive line. Understandable given who they had at quarterback, but everybody knows drafting for immediate need is a dangerous path to tread. Sure enough it came back to bite the Falcons in the end as the 2012 class bombed.

Like really bad. Their top two picks were center Peter Konz and tackle Lamar Holmes. Both were uninspiring blockers that did nothing to improve the overall situation for Matt Ryan or the running game. Neither started more than two seasons and are now both out of the league. The same goes for every other player in that class. All of them. That’s pretty bad stuff right there. Perhaps an indication of how close Thomas Dimitroff came to losing his job.
