The Worst NFL Drafts From All 32 Teams Since the Year 2000
By Erik Lambert
People love to talk about what the best drafts were in the history of every franchise. Well what about the worst nfl drafts?
In the interests of maintaining era continuity this article will explore what the worst draft has been for every NFL franchise since the year 2000. It’s a good 17-season span that will come up with more than a few surprises for fans who may or may not think their team ever had a bad draft. Here’s a quick hint. You’re all wrong. Every franchise, no matter how well run, has delivered at least one clunker over that span. So what were the biggest of them all?
Arizona Cardinals – 2002
In recent years the drafting has gone pretty well for the Arizona Cardinals. However, in the early 2000s they were still trying to shed the shackles of being one of the longtime bottom feeder teams in the NFL. Perhaps the last and worst draft to exemplify this before things finally turned for the better was in 2002. Disappointing isn’t near a strong enough word to encompass this group. By rights it should’ve produced at least one quality player.
They had four picks in the first three rounds including the 12th overall. The 1st round was stacked with future superstars including Ed Reed whom they passed on in favor of Wisconsin defensive tackle Wendell Bryant. A man who produced 1.5 sacks in his entire career, which spanned three seasons before he was basically kicked out of the league for substance abuse violations. The best pick of that draft was Josh McCown who was an up-and-down player during his four seasons with the team. As for the rest? Little to no contributions whatsoever.
The next year Anquan Boldin arrived and changed everything.
