#6:  Sean Payton (New Orleans Saints)

One thing that should be credited to Sean Payton. He runs a tight ship on offense. Having Drew Brees helps but the fact is the New Orleans Saints have been an offensive powerhouse for a decade under Payton’s watch. In fact they’ve ranked #1 in yards six times over that span and top five in points score six times as well. The bane of his existence though has unquestionably been the defense. Payton just can’t seem to get that side of the ball fixed.

Under his watch the defense has ranked 25th or worse in points allowed six times. It’s a big reason the team hasn’t made the playoffs since 2013. Over the past three seasons they’ve ranked 28th, 32nd and 31st in points allowed respectively. No amount of Brees brilliance will be able to cover that up. Not in what has become a loaded division with Atlanta and Carolina going to the Super Bowl and Tampa Bay on the rise. Payton might be in trouble.
