Just days away from the NFL Draft we break down a player projected to be drafted in the top 10, Jamal Adams

Widely considered the best strong safety in this year’s NFL Draft class Jamal Adams is a consensus top 10, if not top five, pick. LSU is known for producing quality defensive backs in recent years, including Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu.

What makes Jamal Adams the best strong safety in this year’s class?

First is the size and speed needed to play at the next level.

Height: 6’0

Weight: 214 lbs

40 Time: 4.56 seconds

Second would be his leadership on the field, some of which comes from his football bloodlines. His father George Adams won a Super Bowl with the Giants as a running back.

On the field, the safety is a general directing his fellow soldiers on the field. He’s the vocal leader of his team and will always step in when needed.

You can often find Adams near the football, mostly because he diagnoses plays extremely well. He’ll play better in the box when he can engage the ball carrier, making him a prototypical NFL strong safety.

Adams does need to make more tackles and attempt less bone-crushing hits, something that will hopefully come with maturity. Strong safeties need to have elite tackling ability, and Adams must hone in on that skill.

Even when he’s not playing in the box, Adams is known for tracking the football and coming up with turnovers. Adams caught four interceptions in 2015 while deflecting 14 passes during his collegiate career.

Likely to be one of the first defensive backs drafted Adams can help turn a stagnant defense into an elite powerhouse.

Look for Chicago, Tennessee, or the New York Jets to employ Adams in their secondary with the hopes he turns into an All-Pro safety and leader of men.
