Rumor: Chargers plan to take Ronnie Stanley at Number 3

After being linked to Laremy Tunsil, DeForest Buckner and Jalen Ramsey over the past couple of weeks, the latest prospect connected to the Bolts is Notre Dame offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley. If the latest comments made by general manager Tom Telesco are true, this does make sense.

Telesco recently stated that the Chargers have been “locked in” on a prospect at number three for a while. Now how long Telesco considers “a while” is key. Since Laremy Tunsil was the presumptive number one overall pick just two weeks ago, this likely means the Ole Miss prospect isn’t the pick. That leaves Buckner, Ramsey and Stanley as potential selections.

Stanley, while not the pass protector Tunsil is, excels as a run blocker. After a disappointing season from 2015 first-round pick Melvin Gordon, Stanley provides an immediate upgrade in the running game. The fans may not agree with the pick, but at least the Chargers are making an attempt to create balance on offense and take some of the pressure of an aging Philip Rivers.
