Dallas Cowboys Lose Dez Bryant 4-6 Weeks

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed everyone’s worse fears following Sunday night’s win against the Giants. Dez Bryant has a broken bone in his foot and will require corrective surgery. This type of injury typically sidelines a player for four to six weeks, which removes Bryant from at least one, possibly more, divisional match-ups. The Cowboys face the Philadelphia Eagles in Philadelphia next week, and follow that up with the Saints, Falcons, and Patriots. That would be the minimum time to miss. The Cowboys have a bye week during week six, which could help immensely.

If Bryant can not return following the Cowboys week six bye week, he could miss the Giants rematch during week seven. They follow that up with Seattle and Philadelphia. It’ll be a tough stretch for the Cowboys with out Bryant.

The 26-year old Bryant signed a massive five-year, $70 million contract that included $45 million guaranteed with the Cowboys this summer.

Terrance Williams is expected to receive the bulk of the catches for the Cowboys. Cole Beasley, Devin Street, and Lucky Whitehead are the only other receivers on the Dallas depth chart. Vince Mayle could come off the practice squad and make an impact. Mayle was a fourth round pick by the Cleveland Browns in this years draft.

The free agents available have little meat left on the bone. The Cowboys could return to a familiar face in Kevin Ogletree, or see if Wes Welker or Reggie Wayne want to continue their careers.

The team also lost second round pick Randy Gregory to a high ankle sprain. With Greg Hardy suspended and Gregory injured, the team might have to lean on fifth round pick Ryan Russell on the right side of the line.
