Fantasy Football Recap: Cowboys vs. Giants Sunday Night

facebooktwitterreddit

In tonight’s Sunday Night Football opener, the Giants and Cowboys each had some critical fantasy football pieces. Between Dez Bryant, Odell Beckham Jr and Tony Romo, the potential for fantasy points tonight was strong. Here are some of the fantasy stats that we saw come out of tonight’s game. We’ll also highlight what happened in our NFL Mocks Staff fantasy football league. You can get all the latest NFL Mocks fantasy advice and listen to our podcast here, only at NFL Mocks and Blog Talk Radio!

Fantasy Stud of the Night – Tony Romo

Despite the two interceptions, Romo led the Cowboys to a late comeback to win a divisional match-ups. Throwing for 356 yards and three touchdowns, Romo stepped up under pressure and was able to deliver the Dallas Cowboys an opening night victory. In the NFL Mocks fantasy football league, Ryan Coon benched Romo in favor of Ryan Tannehill. Romo scored 11 points, which could have helped Ryan as he sits 18 points behind heading towards the crucial Monday Night Football match-ups.

While Dez Bryant was also missing tonight, that was mostly due to injury concerns for the Dallas receiver. As for Beckham, only four fantasy points in his first week is not the ideal opening act. Five catches for 44 yards is certainly underwhelming for a receiver who brings as much excitement as Odell Beckham Jr. Lets see if he can improve on those numbers next week against the Atlanta Falcons, who will be coming off a short week.

As for the NFL Mocks fantasy football league, Odell Beckham Jr was playing against me for Sayre Bedinger’s team. While his team is up 30 points on mine heading into Monday Night Football, it certainly helps. I carry Sam Bradford and the Eagles D/ST into tomorrow night, so coming back might be a tough one.

Fantasy Surprise of the Night – Giants D/ST

No one could have predicted the New York Giants D/ST would be a top-ten scoring fantasy football option this week. Owned in barely three percent of leagues, the Giants defense had two interceptions, a touchdown, and a fumble recovery. While I wouldn’t recommend making them a waiver wire priority, they should be a team to watch going forward.
