With the injury to Justin Gilbert (not to mention the fact that the second-year CB has underperformed greatly as of late), Gaines could have the most to gain during the team’s final three pre-season games. With a legitimate 1-2 punch at CB with Haden/Williams, the Browns have a spot open for a much-needed talented rookie to step in and be a difference maker.

The Louisville product has his time to shine, and he can’t miss the golden opportunity being handed to him. With the jury out on Gilbert, it’s Gaines who can catch the eye of coaches and fans alike.

Here’s what Jonah Tuls, one of NFL Mocks’ best scouting gurus told me regarding Gaines’ game:

"“Charles Gaines is an undersized cornerback that plays much more physical and aggressive than what he is billed at. His overaggressive nature can bite him sometimes as he will fall for double moves on occasion. Overall, he’s an intriguing, ball-hawking corner that can run with anybody, but I would be cautious about him being a bit too aggressive.”"

Starting tonight, it’s Gaines’ show to put on in the secondary.
