Report: Dolphins DE Dion Jordan Suspended for 2015

Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan apparently just doesn’t get it.

Jordan was the third overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and has recorded three sacks since then. After playing in 16 games as a rookie and just 10 games in his sophomore season, the former Oregon Ducks pass rusher will miss the entire 2015 season and his entire paycheck.

Ouch.

It’s always incredible to me when NFL players violate substance abuse policy, especially guys who fail it multiple times. But, it’s not my position to judge, nor is it my position to speculate on Jordan’s personal life. It’s my job to talk about what this means on the field, and honestly for the Dolphins, it doesn’t mean much.

It’s obviously a bummer for them that the trade up  to get Jordan two years ago was a wash and hasn’t worked out at all. It’s obviously a bummer for them that they won’t have him when they just made the moves they did this offseason, including getting Ndamukong Suh from the Detroit Lions as a free agent.

That said, Jordan had three sacks in two seasons, and wasn’t very good in the Dolphins’ system, nor was he developing all that well. Now he’s making more poor decisions off the field and it could be the end of the line for him with the Dolphins.

Another reason why this hinders the Dolphins’ offseason plan would be their pursuit to trade Jordan, and there were apparently talks of a deal with the Eagles that included guard Evan Mathis.

What happens next for Dion Jordan? Odds are, we’ll see him with another team before all is said and done, but he’s going to have to earn his shot and it’s going to be on a make-or-break kind of deal.

Jordan’s situation certainly doesn’t help the likes of Shane Ray and Randy Gregory in this year’s NFL Draft, after they have both been in trouble for use or possession of substances the NFL has strict policies against.
