2015 NFL Draft Rumors: Latest Around the NFL
The 2015 NFL Draft is less than two days away, and while you’re taught to not believe any (much) of what you hear at this point in time prior to the event itself, it’s fun to talk about nonetheless. Here are some of the latest rumors around the web.
Lions Reaching Out To Trade Down
What motivation would the Lions have for trading down, and how far exactly would they be willing to move? That’s a bit of a difficult thing to predict, considering none of us have any idea how the board is going to fall and what the Lions might be targeting.
A lot of mock drafts right now have them taking Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon or even Todd Gurley of Georgia if he were to fall to that point in the first round. The Lions are a tough team to peg this year, but it wouldn’t shock anyone if they were targeting a defensive tackle to pair with Haloti Ngata up front.
Dolphins Want Todd Gurley
There have been a variety of reports that the Miami Dolphins want Todd Gurley, and TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline added to that pile of reports on Tuesday.
“One team that hopes Todd Gurley does not end up in the draft’s initial ten picks are the Miami Dolphins, who will quickly swipe up the ball carrier if he’s still available when they are called to the clock in round one.”
It’s entirely possible at this point that the Dolphins will be able to draft Gurley, and it’s hard to say that wouldn’t be a great fit for him. Putting him in a tandem with Lamar Miller would give the Dolphins a really strong 1-2 punch and help out Ryan Tannehill immensely.
Denzel Perryman to the Packers?
In that same report from Pauline, he reports that one personnel member in the Packers’ front office is really pushing for Denzel Perryman, the linebacker from Miami.
Perryman is a pitbull that hits hard and flies around the field. He’s undersized, but adding him in Green Bay would allow Clay Matthews to move back to the outside, where he’s more of a natural fit.
It wouldn’t be an absolute shock to see the Hurricanes linebacker in the first round, but it would be a bit of a wild card selection. Rankings of the inside linebackers in this class are pretty scattered across the board.
Top Five Teams Interested In Trading Down
Trading down is something that obviously a lot of teams want to do, but if every team in the top five is trying to do it, that’s going to make for a really interesting first round on Thursday night.
Bad teams want to accumulate picks all the time, so this doesn’t come as a shock but it’s interesting nonetheless.
