Veteran Free Agent Fits – Michael Vick

Veteran Quarterback Michael Vick is still looking for a job after months of waiting. While most teams have their quarterback situation settled, some could either use a placeholding starter or a veteran back-up who can teach the young kids the ropes. Other teams may be forced due to a major injury to their starter. Vick is entering his 13th season, missing a couple of years with the dog fighting charges, and is still looking for one last shot to win. He says he wants to play three more seasons, but he still needs an opportunity.] Which teams can give him the opportunity to continue his NFL career?

The Bills are a quarterback away from being playoff contenders, after not being in the playoffs since 1999. Everyone knows the Bills have had quarterback problems for years. They thought drafting EJ Manuel would be the long-term solution, but he had proven ineffective as an NFL player. Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and Matt Simms were each brought in to bring a veteran challenger to push Manuel, but each of them have not shown strong signs of being effective.

In comes Mike Vick. Yes, he’s not the incredible dual-threat quarterback he was with the Falcons or Eagles, but he is an accurate, running quarterback. Vick also has a good working relation with Rex Ryan, which is always a plus. Whether he’s another camp arm or a true candidate for the Buffalo job, Vick can help Manuel improve. For a team looking to make that next jump, a vet like Vick could be a great help.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Vick would only be coming to Jacksonville as a veteran voice to help Blake Bortles improve his overall game. With such a young locker room, someone with the leadership and experience such as Vick is invaluable to a team that doesn’t win much. He obviously wont be coming here with championship aspirations, or even a chance to be the starter at that, but its a good opportunity where he can showcase himself with an abundance of young receivers, if given an opportunity. The weather ain’t half bad either.

New England Patriots

This is just incase Tom Brady doesn’t get his suspension overturned. Yes they have Jimmy Garoppollo, who will get the chance to show why he was a second round pick. They also signed former Seahawk Matt Flynn earlier this week. With Brady possibly not being able to be with the team for almost a month, Vick’s leadership and ability to keep a team together is key. He will also be reuniting with former teammates Bradley Fletcher and Patrick Chung on the defensive side. While this option isn’t likely, it’s an interesting option.

Seattle Seahawks

The rumors of Vick to Seattle are starting to go around. Obviously he would be a backup, but it may be his last chance to win a Super Bowl. Tavaris Jackson is not resigning with the team, so Russell Wilson is in desperate need of a backup. With a solid, championship capable team around him, Vick should need little persuasion to head to Seattle.
