One of the biggest surprises in the NFL this season has been the Cleveland Browns, who now sit at 3-1 after a blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the season opener and then three straight wins.
While Browns fans are understandably excited about the team finally looking like a playoff contender, their early success could actually take them out of the quarterback market. However, the Browns might just be lucky enough to see the best pure passer in the 2027 NFL Draft, Trinidad Chambliss, fall to them.
Browns’ hot start creates an unexpected 2027 NFL Draft problem
Despite inconsistent play from Deshaun Watson, who has already been responsible for two interceptions and three fumbles this season while posting just a 58.8 PFF passing grade, the Browns may not have an opportunity to select a quarterback early in the first round.

Cleveland is unlikely to have a top-10 pick this year, and while the Browns currently own two first-round selections, their own and the Los Angeles Rams', neither is likely to be high enough to land one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2027 NFL Draft.
That could leave Cleveland considering another developmental quarterback or a prospect with more questions, such as Ohio State's Julian Sayin. After selecting three quarterbacks over the past two seasons, however, it's hard to see the Browns making another move unless they are absolutely convinced that player can become their franchise quarterback.
The one player who could change this outlook.
Trinidad Chambliss could be the quarterback Cleveland needs
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss could potentially fall within Cleveland's range in the 2027 NFL Draft.
While Chambliss currently has a consensus draft ranking as the eighth-best player in the class according to NFL Mock Draft Database, scouts tend to get hung up on measurables, and those do not necessarily work in his favor. He is listed at just 6-foot, 205 pounds, which could cause some NFL teams to question how his game will translate to the next level.
Despite that lack of size as someone who trains quarterbacks in the Houston area, I am confident in saying he is the most polished passer in the 2027 NFL Draft.
With the right offensive coordinator who will allow him to get out of the pocket at times, he has a chance to be the Browns' best quarterback since Baker Mayfield's 2020 season.
That makes Cleveland's unexpected success one of the more interesting storylines to follow as the 2027 NFL Draft approaches. The Browns could stick with Watson, who will be 31 years old and has played like a middle-of-the-pack quarterback at best, hope a prospect like Chambliss falls within their range, or make an aggressive move up the board for the quarterback they believe can finally become their long-term answer.
For a team that has been searching for its franchise quarterback for years, the Browns’ early success could make finding that player even more difficult.
