Week of the 2025 NFL season is in the books and teams are still wheeling and dealing.

On Monday, the Jacksonville Jaguars struck a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles sending running back Tank Bigsby to the defending Super Bowl champs in exchange for a 2026 fifth-and sixth-round pick paving the way for running back Bhayshul Tuten.

With selection of Tuten and seventh round pick LeQuint Allen Jr in the 2025 NFL Draft., the Jaguars had a bit of a logjam at running back with Travis Etienne also running the rock.  While a move wasn’t expected this quick, the trade makes sense for the Jags, who decided to part ways with Bigsby after Etienne proved his worth with an outstanding performance in Week 1.

Bigsby, on the other hand, had just 12 yards on 5 attempts against the Carolina Panthers in the season opener.  Selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Bigby emerged as the team’s leading rusher in 2024 with 766 yards rushing and 7 touchdowns.  But that was due to a down year by Etienne who looked like the running back who rushed for back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023. With the talent of Tuten on board, Bigsby is the odd man out.

More touches for the rookie running backs

In a trade that now has Bigsby backing up Saquon Barkley in Philly, the Jaguars can now open more opportunity for both Tuten and Allen Jr. more Tuten who has the combination of power and speed to be a dynamic second option in Jacksonville.  The rookie running back saw just 3 attempts for 11 yards in his NFL debut, but an 8-yard run in the game showcased his capability.

Selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Virgina Tech product rushed for 1,159 yards in his final season at the school.  A tough runner with an elusive style of running, Tuten’s track speed and ability to deliver punishment when met by tacklers makes him a rookie to watch as the season moves forward.

Look for more touches now that Bigsby is no longer on the depth chart.

2026 NFL Draft value: Jaguars get more picks

While Tuten as the biggest winner of the trade, the Jaguars made out nicely.  Not only do they get to see what they have in this year’s draft class with both Tuten and Allen Jr getting more playing time, they have that fifth and sixth round pick to work with.  They could use those picks in a trade package or add depth at key positions.

As of now, they get to see their 2025 NFL Draft fourth round pick show what he can do on the field.
