The New York Giants shook things up Tuesday by signing 10-time Pro bowl quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year, $10.5 million deal.  The free agent singing comes just days after signing veteran quarterback Jameis Winson.

With Russell now in the mix and set to become the team’s starter in 2025, the big question now is will the team still draft a quarterback in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft?  Maybe, the bigger question is what this all means for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders seemed primed for the Giants at No. 3.

Given that Wilson is 36 years old, and this is just a one-year deal, it could mean the Giants could still add Sanders to a quarterback room that also includes Tommy DeVito.  They could draft the quarterback and let him sit a year and learn from a veteran like Wilson.  Let’s remember that it was just a year ago that the Atlanta Falcons drafted Michael Penix Jr in the top 10 after signing Kirk Cousins to a much bigger and eye-popping deal than the Giants gave Wilson.

New York Giants should still have Shedeur Sanders at the top of their NFL draft board

Are the Giants going down that same path or is the Russell free agent-signing a sign that the team may be punting on this year’s draft as far as quarterback talent or do they see someone they can nab later in the draft like a Jaxson Dart or Will Howard?

If that is the case, then that could mean the Giants set their attention to top prospects like Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter at No. 3, which could cause Sanders to slide in the draft.  That could give other quarterback needy teams a chance to grab the Colorado prospect later in the top 10.

While there is still a shot he could go No. 2 to the Cleveland Browns, here are the top landing spots for Sheduer Sanders after the Russell Wilson signing:

New York Giants:  There is an unpredictability with the 36-year-old version of Wilson and inconsistency of Jameis Winston that should still lore the Giants to select Sanders at No. 3.  The team could be playing all their cards here to land a quarterback to lead them beyond 2025.  That quarterback could still be Sanders who would have the most talented arm of the three if he’s still taken No. 3.

Las Vegas Raiders: Don’t let the Geno Smith trade let you think the Raiders still wouldn’t have their eyes on Sanders if he slipped down to No. 6.  Like his situation with the Giants, Sanders would have a chance to learn behind a veteran and potentially take over the starter role later in the season if Smith doesn’t find his magic in Vegas.

New York Jets: The Jets are turning to Justin Fields to lead the way after the failed experiment known as Aaron Rodgers.  But a Jets team that has been quarterback hungry for seemingly over a decade will not just setting on the hope Fields finally breaks out in New York.  If Sanders slips to No. 7, the Jets will have something to think about.  That something is a Fields vs. Sanders battle in camp that will trigger excitement throughout the Jets organization.

Dallas Cowboys:  If not the Jets, Sanders could slip out of a the top 10 and possibly land with a team like the Cowboys.  Wouldn’t Deion Sanders love that!  Also, Jerry Jones would pounce on the idea of getting Shedeur Sanders in Dallas who may just light a fire under Dak Prescott.
