Could the New York Giants quarterback search end at Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart in the 2025 NFL Draft?

Beyond Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, there are some interesting QB prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft who are intriguing.  Ohio State’s Will Howard, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel and Louisville Tyler Shough all are getting some buzz, but not as much hype as Dart, who impressed at the 2025 NFL Combine.

Coming off a season in which he threw for 4,279 yards with 39 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, Dart won’t wow you with the long ball, but he is a QB who can excel in the short passing game with a quick tempo release.  His athleticism and mobility will intrigue a team like the Giants in that he is a player who can make plays with his legs.

But the question is where in the draft will Dart be available?

The Giants should be in good position to land one of the top two QBs, but if they are both off the board, do they go bold and get a quarterback at No. 3 who has talent and the ability to lead despite not having any elite talent that stands out?

2025 NFL Mock Draft: NFL.com has Jaxson Dart going as high as No. 3 to the Giants

In his first NFL Mock Draft, NFL media analyst Charles Davis has the Giants going bold and selecting Dart as the third quarterback off the board with Shedeur Sanders going No. 1 to the Tennessee Titans and Cam Ward No. 2 to the Cleveland Browns.

Davis writes:

“The last time the Giants went all in on a QB from Ole Miss, it worked out pretty well. I know people have not been projecting Dart to go this high, but New York has a screaming need at the position. After passing on Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy and Bo Nix in last year’s draft, the G-Men might not feel like they can sit back and wait this time around.”

First thought here is that the Giants in this scenario could perhaps wait until Day 2 to select the Ole Miss star, but with his recent rise in NFL Draft stock value, it may be wise to take him at No. 3.  Considering the Giants had high interest in Drake Maye in the 2024 NFL Draft, having high interest in Dart wouldn’t be shocking.

Obviously, Dart isn’t as highly talented as Maye coming out, but he is a quarterback with good touch on timing routes who is also as athletic as Maye with his ability to run and create yards outside the pocket with his legs.  Similar traits as their 2019 NFL Draft first round pick Daniel Jones, but Dart would bring more leadership and does have more of a fiery drive to his game.

If the Giants have Dart on their radar, another scenario would be to trade back, get some additional picks and take the quarterback later in the first round.  The only problem with that is teams like the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets have their eyes on a quarterback, so if Dart is considered the third best QB in the draft, he could be off the board depending on how far back the Giants were to trade back.

As far as who NFL Mocks has the Giants selecting at No. 3, Sanders would be the ideal selection if either the Titans or Browns went in another direction other than quarterback.  There is a chance the GMEN will have their choice between Ward and Sanders if the first two picks were to be Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter, which is highly possible.

In what would be an intriguing decision for the Giants, a more interesting scenario would be if they did indeed go with Dart that high up in the draft.  A year ago, it was J.J. McCarthy getting his name involved in the mix of top QBs.  It appears Jaxson Dart is the QB making waves in 2025.
