Shaq Leonard NFL rumors: 3 Super Bowl contenders prime to sign three-time All-Pro LB
Can Shaq Leonard make an impact with the Dallas Cowboys
As reported earlier this week, Dallas Cowboys owner and General Manager Jerry Jones acknowledged that the team has made contact regarding the three-time All-Pro linebacker and are doing their due diligence to see if Leonard is a fit.
With the loss of veteran linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, there is a need for veteran presence in the Cowboys front-seven. The question is whether Jones and the Cowboys feel Leonard is still capable of making an impact more than second-year linebackers Damone Clark and Markquese Bell who have stepped up in place of Vander Esch.
Obviously, with Micah Parsons anchoring the defense, Leonard wouldn’t be expected to come in and be the leader on defense, but a leader and veteran presence who can still impact the game. Well, that is what Jones will do his homework on. Further than that, the outspoken Cowboys owner is keeping his mouth shut.
“Well, [Clark] played outstanding out there tonight,” Jones said, via the team’s official website. “I sure like the way overall we’re playing – our linebackers are playing. I won’t be commenting right now whether Leonard is a viable alternative for us or not.”
If the second-year player continues to play outstanding, the fit for Leonard in Dallas will more than likely be null unless there is another injury or if Jones is petty enough to sign Leonard just to keep him away from the next team rumored to have interest in Leonard.
