NFL rumors: These 3 Super Bowl contenders have Bill Belichick in their back pocket if all else fails in 2024

Bill Belichick will not coach in 2024, but which NFL powerhouses could target the legendary coach in 2025?

All NFL head coach positions have been filled and Bill Belichick has been left out in the cold.  But could that have kicked open the door for three Super Bowl contenders in 2024 to turn to the legendary head coach in 2025 if all else fails?

It will be bewildering not seeing the future Hall-of-Fame coach on the sidelines in 2024, particularly with the New England Patriots.  But the fact that the six-time Super Bowl winning head coach couldn’t land with hungry NFL franchises like the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Commanders may signal the league has passed the greatness of Belichick by.

While Jerod Mayo (Patriots), Brian Callahan (Tennessee Titans), Dave Canles (Carolina Panthers), Mike Macdonald (Seattle Seahawks) and Antonio Pierce (Las Vegas Raiders) symbolize a new era in the NFL, teams like the Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers and Falcons decided to give one-time coaches like Dan Quinn, Jim Harbaugh and Raheem Morris second chances rather than turn to a man with proven success.

NFL teams sending a message to Bill Belichick? Is his time over in the NFL?

But what has happened in New England the last four seasons is what has shied NFL owners away from hiring Belichick.  The Falcons reportedly had the most interest in Belichick, but could his aim for full team control has squandered that opportunity?  Then there’s the fact his team hasn’t made the playoffs 3 of the last 4 seasons.

That is not the resume for a NFL head coaching job, if you’re the great Bill Belichick.

Perhaps Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey summed it all up this week when he tweeted:

That debate is summed up by Belichick’s mediocrity without the greatness of Tom Brady as his quarterback.  As far as team building, the six teams with head coaching vacancies needed more than what Belichick could offer at this stage of his career, but what about teams that have the quarterback, team and may just be a coach away from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy?  Could that be the niche of a 71-hear old coach striving to eclipse the all-time win record?

After falling short in 2023, there are three NFL contenders who could still turn to Belichick if their 2024 NFL seasons end once again in underachievement.  If all starts to fail for these 3 NFL powerhouses, expect the Belichick rumors to grow for the 2025 NFL season.
