NFC North mock draft thoughts: Vikings go defense in CBS Sports latest Mock
The Minnesota Vikings will have a few big decisions to make this offseason. One of which would be whether to show 36-year-old quarterback Kirk Cousins the money. His free agency decision could and probably will influence what the team does in the 2024 NFL Draft. They also have their top defensive stud set to test free agency in Danielle Hunter.
So should the Vikings draft a QB, trade up for one or use the No. 11 overall pick on defense?
In his latest mock draft, CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards have the Vikings selecting Florida State edge Jared Verse. Not a bad choice at all at that spot, especially as a replacement for Hunter. If Cousins is back they could also draft a quarterback in the second round with players like J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix as possibilities.
If that is the route, whoever they draft at QB can learn behind Cousins for a couple of seasons like Jordan Love did under Aaron Rodgers. If Cousins is gone or gives indication he is not re-signing in Minnesota, the Vikings will have to consider trading up for one of the top 3 quarterbacks in the draft. That could be tough since the top 3 teams are quarterback hungry.
While Verse would come with extreme talent defensively, the Vikings will have a quarterback issue to take care of first, one that could shake up the entire NFL Draft.
