New York Jets, Rome Odunze the perfect match in latest CBS NFL Mock Draft
With the return of Aaron Rodgers and some key moves at important positions, the New York Jets find themselves in position to select the best player available with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Could that be Washington’s Rome Odunze?
In his latest NFL Mock Draft, CBS.com’s Pete Prisco has the Jets taking the big wide receiver who was such an outside threat during his days playing for the Huskies. The team did sign Mike Williams to a one-year deal to pair up with Garrett Wilson, but will Odunze being available at No. 10 be too hard to pass up?
Prisco writes with his selection:
“They are trying to get more help outside to go with Garrett Wilson. Rome Odunze is a big target who would make a nice complement to Wilson's game -- even with the one-year signing of Mike Williams.”
After the abysmal display of offense, the Jets put on the field in 2023, team GM Joe Douglas is determined to put a better product on the field in 2024. Yes, the return of Rodgers will make things that much better, but if the offensive line is poor and there are not many playmakers for the veteran QB to get the ball to, what’s the point?
New York Jets in position to select the best player available at No. 10
Douglas did address the offensive line with the signing of All-Pro tackle Tyron Smith and added another reliable weapon in Williams. The team also signed QB Tyrod Taylor who is obviously an upgrade in a backup role and who can step in and play if Rodgers goes down again. But what about more offensive firepower? Well, drafting a young stud like Odunze would address that.
With the Jets in position to take the best player available, will the team pass up on a tackle or tight end Brock Bowers if either are available at No. 10? Most mocks do have Bowers as the selection in this spot. Adding the top tight end in the 2024 NFL Draft wouldn’t be anything to criticize, but neither would selecting Odunze, who would add more toughness to the Jets’ wide receiver corps and could learn behind a receiver like Williams and form chemistry with Rodgers who has a knack of propelling young receivers.
Interestingly, Prisco does have Bowers going No. 12 to the Denver Broncos, which means when it comes to the choice between Odunze and the Georgia tight end, the Jets will sway towards the 6-foot-3, 215-pound receiver who hauled in 92 receptions for 1640 yards and 15 touchdowns while catching the ball from Heisman Trophy runner up Michael Penix Jr.
Imagine what he can do in an offense led by Rodgers?
With what the Jets are targeting offensively, Odunze would be the perfect selection on the outside. Again, he can learn from a veteran like Mike Williams and would complement Garrett Wilson who will be Rodgers’ deep threat option.
If you are a Jets fan, this is a mock draft prediction that should hype you up.
