AFC East: Zack Wilson, New York Jets seek win vs Broncos
Like the New England Patriots, the New York Jets will be desperate for a win in Week 5 as they take on the Denver Broncos.
Coming off a 23-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday night, young quarterback Zack Wilson put forth a solid performance the team can certainly build off. In that game, Wilson completed 28-of-39 attempts for 245 yards and two touchdowns. More importantly, he didn’t turn the ball over which is a step in the right direction obviously.
Can Wilson take another step against the winless Broncos in Week 5?
If he plays loose like he did against the Chiefs and just let the game come to him, Jets fans may start to see the talent the team drafted high in the 2020 NFL draft. Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who may be seeking some revenge against his former team in Denver, was impressed with his young quarterback’s composure heading up to the matchup with the Chiefs in which Wilson took much criticism as a signal caller not primed for the NFL.
“Whether something went good or bad, he stayed the same through the game,” Hackett said, via the team’s official website. “I appreciated that. He understood what we were trying to accomplish within that game, the different plays that we had, the ways that we were trying to attack them, and he was unbelievably efficient.”
If Zach Wilson and the Jets’ offense take the same approach against a team that gave up 70 points in a game, they will easily improve their record to 2-3 on the season and suddenly a season without Aaron Rodgers won’t seem lost after all.
