Quinn Ewers was eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft but decided to return to Texas for a third season, which could turn out to be a win for the Longhorns quarterback who will enter the 2025 NFL Draft as one of the top quarterback prospects.

With Arch Manning waiting in the wings and putting the pressure on, Ewers won’t have much room for error in the upcoming college football season.  In fact, Ewers will have to show growth in areas like field vision and mechanics (especially facing the blitz) to really remain as one of the top QB prospects in 2024.

Can Quinn Ewers 2025 NFL Draft stock rise?

If 2023 was any indication, he should dazzle as junior even with the issues listed above.  Last season with the Longhorns, the 6-foo-2, 205-pound Ewers threw for 3,479 yards with 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.  That production came with throwing the ball to the likes of Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell.  With a new cast of playmakers, can Ewers find a way to leap ahead of Shedeur Sanders and Carson Beck as the top QB by the time the 2025 NFL Draft comes around.

An AFC college scouting executive has a bold take on how good Ewers can be.

“Ewers has the best chance to break away from the pack because of the offense he’s in and how well he’s played,” the scouting executive told ESPN’s Matt Miller.  “But he has to cut down on the bonehead plays he makes a few times a game.”

This is where another season in college will benefit Ewers as more experience should help him read blitzes and get the ball out quicker and more efficiency.

2025 NFL Draft: What NFL media analyst likes about Quinn Ewers

In an early scouting report on Ewers, NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah does like some things about the Texas quarterback, but in his overall assessment feels Ewers does have things to work on to improve his game which he will have the opportunity to do in the upcoming season at Texas.

Jeremiah writes:

I love Ewers' urgency and tempo in the pocket. He has very quick feet as he sets up and he can slide laterally or climb vertically to avoid free rushers. He has a quick, three-quarters release point and the ball really pops out of his hand without much strain or effort. He throws with anticipation in the middle of the field (he loves throwing dig routes) and he can generate plenty of velocity to fit throws into tight windows. He excels on run-pass options (RPOs) because of his quick hands and decision making.”

When it comes to QB comparison, Jeremiah sees both Kevin Kolb and Baker Mayfield based on his skillset and potential.

3 early ideal NFL fits for Quinn Ewers

If Ewers has the type of season he is capable of, there should be a decision for quarterback hungry teams to make once the 2025 NFL Draft approaches.  If he remains at least the No. 3 quarterback prospect, teams could look to draft Ewers as a future starter.  With that, we look at teams who either have an aging veteran at quarterback or might be looking to move on from an underachieving quarterback.

The Raiders didn’t select a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft which puts them at the forefront of teams that will on the market for a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.  Unless Aidan O’Connell can prove he’s the man for the job, expect the Raiders to be a team tied to Ewers, Beck and Sanders, especially if the season doesn’t go well and they end up with a top 10 pick.

As it stands, Ewers would have a chance to compete for a role right away.  The Raiders do have journeyman veteran Gardner Minshew locked up for the next two seasons in case O’Connell proves he isn’t the man and if they draft a young QB like Ewers, would give him a chance to learn and grow.

New York Jets:

Aaron Rodgers is over 40 and there is no telling how much gas he has in the tank, especially coming off a season-ending Achilles injury.  After trading away Zach Wilson, the Jets do have to think about life without Rodgers.  They did address that by taking a flyer on Florida State’s Jordan Travis but expect the Jets to be a team in on a quarterback to compete with Travis, while learning behind Rodgers even he does extend his career to the 2025 NFL season.

Ewers would be a good pick for the Jets if they are selecting late in the first round and Rodgers continues to play.  If Rodgers retires following the 2024 NFL season, the Jets would be more interested in Beck or Sanders, QB’s who could start Year 1.

New York Giants:

Like the Raiders, the Giants are going to be linked to every top quarterback entering the 2025 NFL Draft.  They remain committed to Daniel Jones, but the team’s high interest in Drake Maye show they are ready to move on from Jones if they were in position to draft one of the top quarterbacks.  The Giants could once again land a top 10 pick which would put them more in the range of drafting Sanders or Beck, but if both are off the board, the Giants should take a long look at Ewers.
