It is time to get into the NFL Fantasy Football Rookie Start 'Em, Sit 'Em for Week 6! We have several roles changing for rookies this week due to injuries, but the most notable change seems to be a purposeful decision by the coaching staff.

Let's get into which rookies you should start and who you should sit this week in fantasy football.

NFL fantasy football rookie starts for Week 6

Start 'Em: Germie Bernard

The matchup: The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay in Week 6. Tampa Bay's defense has played admirably in spite of its offense this season. It has the 14th-ranked scoring defense and ranks 20th in passing yards allowed through five games.

Why I'm starting him: The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a bit of a wide receiver crisis. Michael Pittman Jr. went on IR on Saturday with a foot injury, Roman Wilson broke his finger and will miss multiple weeks, and depth receiver/special teamer Ben Skowronek is also out at least this week with a calf injury.

All of these injuries mean more snaps and targets for Bernard, but Pittman is the key. Even when Wilson was healthy, Bernard saw a major uptick in production in Pittman's two absences so far this season.

In Pittman's two games missed this season (Weeks 2 and 6), Bernard posted these numbers:

  • Week 2 - 79 percent of snaps, eight targets, four catches, 35 yards
  • Week 5 - 92 percent of snaps, nine targets, six catches, 80 yards

In the other three games, Bernard played just four, 27 and 40 percent of the offensive snaps and saw just three total targets.

Bernard is a strong play as a growing receiver now in a starting role. He has quickly earned Aaron Rodgers' trust (no easy feat for a rookie!) and has the staying power to keep producing for multiple weeks moving forward.

Start 'Em: Carnell Tate

The matchup: The Tennessee Titans are facing the Indianapolis Colts this week. Despite allowing the 15th-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season, the Colts are one of the worst defenses in the league. They've given up the sixth-most passing yards through five weeks and the fifth-most points so far this season.

Why I'm starting him: OK, my bad on the start recommendation last week. The Houston Texans got their mojo back defensively with DeMeco Ryans taking over play-calling. But the Colts are NOT the Texans on defense. Not only is the Colts' defense struggling through the air, but it's also struggling overall. The Colts rank 24th in total defensive DVOA, 23rd through the air and 31st on the ground.

That being said, the Titans' offense can get back on track in this game. The Colts are first in the NFL in yards allowed after the catch, and last in the NFL in QB pressure rate.

In Tate's best game this season against Baltimore, he had 45 yards after the catch. Having a chance to top that this week would really boost his numbers.

And quarterback Cam Ward, like many young QBs, is a vastly different player when not facing pressure. For the season, Ward is 30th in the league in EPA/dropback at -0.27. If you filter out pressures, he becomes a positive player at +0.02 EPA/DB. That's equivalent to Jordan Love this season on average.

So, with Ward having time to read the defense and make plays, Tate with time to get open, and space to work after the catch, Tennessee's offense should be in good shape in Week 6, making Tate a strong option for a bounce-back week in your lineups.

Start 'Em: Denzel Boston

The matchup: The Cleveland Browns will take on the Baltimore Ravens this week in a key divisional matchup. Baltimore is allowing the 11th-most fantasy points to wide receivers this year and is in the bottom half of the league in both points and passing yards allowed.

Why I'm starting him: Denzel Boston continues to be the most confident and consistent "start" among all rookies in fantasy football this season. Last week, he posted another double-digit performance with three catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.

What's even more surprising is that last week turned out to be Boston's second-lowest output of the season in catches and yards, but he still tied his season high in targets with seven and was productive in fantasy.

Cleveland is continuing to make Boston the focal point of its offense, and he isn't showing any signs of slowing down. What's most impressive about Boston is that he's succeeding in the exact manner he did in college.

Boston was a big-play threat on the outside who made contested catches with his body control, size and strong hands. So far this season, he is leading the NFL in yards per reception (20.6) despite ranking 68th out of 73 qualified receivers in target separation (2.2). And with a completion rate over expected of just 3.8 percent, the analytics say these aren't unexpected results.

Feel confident in starting Boston again this week and keeping him in your lineups until proven otherwise.

NFL fantasy football rookie sits for Week 6

Sit 'Em: Jeremiyah Love

The matchup: The Arizona Cardinals are matched up in a divisional game against the Los Angeles Rams this week. The Rams are allowing just the 19th-most fantasy points to running backs this season and are 12th in rushing yards allowed.

Why I'm sitting him: Love is coming off his worst game of the season with just 12 carries for 22 yards and only one target.

The receiving game is the biggest factor in sitting Love now and moving forward. Highly touted and highly drafted for his work on the ground and as a receiver out of the backfield, Love was a very exciting prospect in fantasy football, where the real difference-making running backs are also very active in the passing game.

But the passing work has all been taken away from Love. In the last two games, Tyler Allgeier has run 32 routes to Love's 18, per FTN Fantasy. That's after a difference of just one route in Weeks 1 and 3 combined, and after Mike LaFleur's comments last week.

If Love isn't going to produce much on the ground (just one rushing touchdown this season) or through the air, there's not a lot of value in starting him right now. Especially against a tougher matchup with the Rams this week.

Fantasy Outlook: Bench/Stash

Sit 'Em: Eli Raridon

The matchup: The New England Patriots are facing the New York Jets this week. New York is a top-five defense in the NFL in points, yards and EPA/DB allowed. The Jets have also given up the third-fewest fantasy points to tight ends this season.

Why I'm sitting him: Eli Raridon had a breakout game last week for the Patriots with season highs in snaps, targets and catches. He caught all five of his targets for 57 yards on the day. But it's too early to plug him into your lineup this week.

Last week, the Patriots faced the Las Vegas Raiders, who are turning things around defensively but were still a favorable matchup. The Raiders are the 22nd-ranked scoring defense in the NFL and are ranked 27th in yards allowed.

They especially struggle in fantasy against tight ends, now ranked sixth in the league in points allowed to the position.

The injury outlook for New England's pass-catchers makes Raridon an enticing option, but against a really tough matchup this week, it's best to sit and wait for another indicator that he should be in your lineup.

Fantasy Outlook: Bench/stash

Sit 'Em: Antonio Williams

The matchup: The Washington Commanders are squaring off against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football this week. The 49ers have perhaps been the most surprising defense so far in 2026. They are ranked third in points allowed, sixth in yards allowed and eighth in yards given up through the air. They are also the eighth-best team against wide receivers in fantasy football.

Why I'm sitting him: Despite the return of Jayden Daniels last week, Williams did not have the game we were hoping for in Week 5. We said last week that Williams would be a "start" with starting receiver Terry McLaurin likely out. Unfortunately (purely from an Antonio Williams fantasy perspective), Terry played and was productive with four catches on as many targets and 62 yards.

Not only is Williams competing against McLaurin and Stefon Diggs for targets, but starting tight end Chig Okonkwo also worked his way back to full health last week. Okonkwo was injured in the Week 1 matchup against the Eagles and made his return in Week 4. But last week was his first game playing more than 70 percent of the snaps, and he turned that into four catches on six targets for 60 yards.

Right now, Washington's offense has too many mouths to feed. Williams is third on the team in targets, but Okonkwo is looking to jump him. And for a run-first team (6th in the league in rush attempts, compared to 15th in pass attempts), that's too far down the pecking order to be viable in fantasy.

Fantasy Outlook: Bench/stash

Rookie sleeper of the week: Makai Lemon

The matchup: The Philadelphia Eagles are playing the Carolina Panthers in Week 6. The Panthers are doing well against wide receivers from a fantasy football perspective (26th in fantasy points allowed to receivers), but they are a team that invites shootouts. They are 26th in points allowed, 27th in yards allowed, and 22nd in passing yards allowed this season. They are also missing their top cornerbacks in this game, Jaycee Horn and Michael Jackson, who are both on IR.

Why he's my sleeper: Despite the team crumbling around him, Lemon had his most productive game last week. He had season highs in snaps (81 percent), targets (seven), receptions (five), and yards (43), and he was second on the team in targets and receptions.

With no Saquon Barkley or DeVonta Smith last week, Lemon was an important part of the offense. Both veterans will need to be monitored on the injury reports, but neither is guaranteed to be back in Week 6. If both are out, Lemon is a potential play in fantasy. And even if only Smith is out, you can at least consider Lemon.
