In this inaugural edition of NFL Draft Daily Dish, we dive into the New York Jets' search for a long-term solution at quarterback, explore legal troubles surrounding yet another Georgia Bulldog, and take a look at two UNI Panthers who have caught the Denver Broncos' eye. Let's kick things off with the Jets' potential plans to target a new signal-caller in the upcoming draft.

New York Jets to target quarterback in 2025 NFL Draft

Yesterday, the New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh and appointed defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as their interim head coach. While this decision may have been partly to appease quarterback Aaron Rodgers, it also raises questions about how much longer Rodgers will remain with the Jets.

At 40 years old, Rodgers' performance has declined this season. His QBR of 49.1 is the second lowest of his career and currently ranks 21st in the NFL. With the Jets likely to finish with a losing record and slim chances of being Super Bowl contenders next season, Rodgers could decide to retire at the end of the year.

If Rodgers does retire, the question becomes who will step in as the Jets' next starting quarterback. The current backup, Tyrod Taylor, is 35 years old, so the Jets might look to the draft. With their first-round pick, currently projected to be ninth overall, they could target a young quarterback. The specific choice might depend on who the team hires as their next head coach, but two names to watch are Cam Ward from Miami and Carson Beck from Georgia.

Even if Rodgers returns next season, the Jets could still draft a quarterback to groom as his eventual successor, giving the rookie time to develop over the next two to three years.

Another Georgia Bulldog facing legal troubles

The Georgia Bulldogs have faced numerous off-field issues in recent seasons, and now another player finds himself in legal trouble. Wide receiver Colbie Young was arrested yesterday on charges of battery and assault against an unborn child.

According to reports, a woman claiming to be Young's ex-girlfriend arrived at his apartment around midnight on Tuesday. An argument about their relationship escalated, with Young allegedly "grabbing her left arm near her biceps and triceps and physically pulling her out of his room." Later, she told authorities that Young "grabbed her from behind" and "squeezed her torso and abdomen very hard."

This situation could severely impact Young's NFL prospects, especially if the allegations are true. His chances of being selected in the 2025 NFL Draft were already slim due to his limited on-field production this season. As a transfer from Miami, Young has only recorded 11 receptions, making him the team's fourth-leading wide receiver.

Broncos showing interest in UNI prospects

The Denver Broncos recently attended a Northern Iowa practice to scout some of the school's top NFL Draft prospects up close. One standout they were particularly watching is offensive tackle Jared Penning, who has been named to the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 watch list and earned first-team FCS All-American honors by Stats Perform.

Another likely target of their interest is running back Tye Edwards, who is having an impressive season, averaging 7.1 yards per carry on 60 carries. While neither player currently holds a draftable grade, both are strong candidates to sign as undrafted free agents after the 2025 NFL Draft.
