New York Giants 2025 NFL Draft: Best quarterback option in each of the first 3 rounds
The New York Giants are in quarterback turmoil, but could the answer soon come in the 2025 NFL Draft?
That is the big question facing the Giants going forward as they made the decision to bench former first-round pick Daniel Jones in favor of Tommy DeVito. That decision led to the six-year veteran requesting a release which was granted by the team and now the Giants will have an opportunity to select one of the top quarterback prospects in the upcoming draft.
Currently with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, the Giants will have a shot at the top talent at the position, but is this a draft where a team can find a quality QB in round 2, 3 or beyond?
2025 NFL Draft quarterback options go beyond the first round
With quarterbacks like Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward and Jalen Milroe at the top of the draft board, the Giants will be looking closely at each of those QBs who all can get the ball down field and present dual-threat capabilities that could replicate the success of young QBs in the NFL like C.J. Stroud, Jayden Daniels, Bo Nix and Drake Maye.
But, if the Giants decide to use their pick on another position, there will be quality QB prospects they can take later in the draft who could grow into the role, especially if the Giants were to bring in a veteran for the young QB to learn behind.
In this 2025 NFL Draft series, NFL Mocks looks at the best option at quarterback for the Giants in each of the first three rounds based on current draft position.
Round 1, Pick 2: Cameron Ward, QB - Miami Hurricanes
As intriguing as Sanders would be playing in the Big Apple, the Giants best option with the No. 2 overall pick is Miami’s Cam Ward. Although both players have similar traits, Ward is the more impressive passer with his touch and zip at times. His ability to emphasize in the pocket would set up down the field plays for Malik Nabers. Although he will need to improve his knack of fumbling the ball when hit, his natural leadership abilities should be a welcome in that Giants locker room.
Round 2, Pick 33: Carson Beck, QB - Georgia Bulldogs
With this pick, the Giants could be getting a player they would’ve taken in the top 10. A rhythm passer with great accuracy, this 2025 NFL Draft prospect hasn’t lived up to the top prospect ranking he had entered the season, but the ability and talent is still there for him to excel in the NFL in the right situation. At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, Beck has the prototypical size of an NFL QB and the pocket presence to lead an offense if he has the protection in front of him and consistent playmakers to get the ball to.
Round 3, Pick 67: Drew Allar, QB - Penn State Nittany Lions
There will be interesting options in the third round like Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke and Clemson’s Cade Klubnik, but Penn State’s Drew Allar is the fit for the Giants if they were to wait till late Day 2 to select a quarterback. A draft stock riser this season, Allar also has that prototypical QB size the Giants like. As a mobile quarterback with a quick release and big arm, Allar will remind Giants scouts of Drake Maye, a player they were in love with in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, his sloppiness at times and erratic ball placement could also remind Giants fans of the man they just released, Daniel Jones.
