Is Jalen Milroe the best running quarterback in college football?
In leading the Alabama Crimson Tide to a 42-13 win over LSU in Week 11, Milroe staked his claim to the title with 4 rushing touchdowns in the blowout win. Folks, these weren’t scrambles inside the 10-yard line, this dual-threat quarterback showed up his wheels highlighted by a 72-yard dash in the win.
The reels don’t lie, the wheels don’t lie. In other words, Jalen Hurts beware, Milroe could roll into the NFL and become one of the most complete QBs to be drafted in recent history. At 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, what has stood about Milore (other than his mobility) is his arm strength and ability to keep his eyes down field creating a bit of magic with outstanding wide receiver Ryan Williams.
That showcase of arm strength combined with his ability to create magic with his legs will give NFL teams selecting in the top half of the 2025 NFL Draft something to think about as he continues to rise up that draft board.
2025 NFL Draft: What pundits are saying about Milroe
After his stellar performance against LSU, former Crimson Tide QB and ESPN analyst Greg McElroy praised Milroe’s growth this season along with how much more dangerous he makes the Crimson Tide’s rushing attack.
“This was one of the best rushing attacks we’ve ever seen from an Alabama quarterback,” McElroy said of the 4-TD performance.
“And I think what was most intriguing is that they dominated not just with their scheme. They had a lot of really good looks and really good formations to just kind of formation the heck out of this LSU defense. But they also dominated on the line of scrimmage as well.”
The praise of what Milroe can do on the ground should not overshadow the talent of his arm. Milroe has been the type of quarterback who can spark an offense in different ways and if not for the stellar season of Cam Ward and all the hype surrounding Sheduer Sanders, Milroe could be the most fascinating QB talent in the draft.
3 interesting NFL fits for Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe is an interesting prospect heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. So far, he is projected to go anywhere from the top 10 to late round in the draft. With the recent success of quarterbacks with both elite arm strength and mobility inside and outside the pocket, Milroe will be an interesting target for teams looking to hit the jackpot on young talent from the QB position. Here are 3 of them.
Cleveland Browns: Just something about Milroe in a Browns uniform feels right. A team that could and probably should end up with a top 10 pick, the Browns may see in Milroe what they thought they had in Deshaun Watson. Due to the veteran QB’s season-ending Achilles injury as well as him being deemed one of the worst contracts in NFL History, the Dawg Pound is clamoring for a new beginning at the QB position. Milroe’s high IQ when it comes to playmaking inside and outside the pocket might just be what the doctor ordered for this AFC North squad.
Las Vegas Raiders: The Raiders missed out on drafting one of the top QB prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft and should be a team in prime position to take one in the 2025 NFL Draft. As a team with some talent in place offensively, Milroe could be a prize fit with his ability to excel in off-script situations. Just imagine the magic of a Milroe to Brock Bowers connection in Vegas. Might just be something worth betting on!
Indianapolis Colts: Could the Colts be another team ready to move on from a highly drafted quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft? Things don’t look too great for Anthony Richardson now, and they could take another shot at a young QB by selecting Milroe if they no longer believe in the development of Richardson. With the Colts selecting just outside the top 10, it could be a sweet spot for taking another dual threat quarterback who has natural leadership.
