Christian Gonzalez has gone from one of the biggest steals of the 2023 NFL Draft to the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.
According to multiple reports Monday night, the New England Patriots and their All-Pro cornerback agreed to a four-year, $135 million contract extension with $102 million guaranteed. It's a massive commitment to a player New England was fortunate to land with the No. 17 overall pick just three years ago.
The move locks down one of the Patriots' superstar players long-term. It is also a big moment for Gonzalez, who now surpasses Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who is still waiting for the ink to dry on his own $132 million contract.
The extension, which comes 48 hours before the Patriots and Seahawks kick off the 2026 NFL season in a Super Bowl rematch Wednesday night, sets the stage for the NFL's two highest-paid cornerbacks and two of the top cornerback prospects from the 2023 NFL Draft to showcase their value in the national spotlight.
For Gonzalez, the deal makes the Patriots look even more fortunate that he was still sitting there at No. 17.

Along with Witherspoon, Gonzalez entered the 2023 NFL Draft as one of the top cornerback prospects.
