Carson Beck bet on himself in 2025 and that gamble to forgo the 2025 NFL Draft and transfer from the University of Georgia to the University Miami might pay off in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Once considered one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects, Beck’s decision to return to college for a sixth year was a smart move as he helped lead the Hurricanes to an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship against the Indiana Hoosiers.
In a 27-21 loss, Beck completed 19 of 32 passes for 232 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He not only kept his team in the game but had the ball in his hand with a chance to lead his team on a winning drive. Unfortunately, Beck was intercepted on that final drive ending championship hopes and his own dream to end his college career on top.
Now Beck’s journey leads him to the NFL Draft where he is projected as an early-to-late Day 2 pick. With his prototypical size and accuracy as a passer, the question is can he impress a team enough to take a shot at him higher in the draft than he is expected.

NFL Outlook
Beck has proven at the college level that he can be an effective starter if his offense is stacked. In transferring from Georgia to Miami, Beck did get a shot at redemption, and he proved himself in leading the Hurricanes to the national championship vs Fernando Mendoza and the Indiana Hoosiers. In the 27-21 loss, Beck went 19-for-32, with 232 passing yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Beck was solid, but his deep ball inconsistency reared its head when Beck launched a deep ball into double coverage leading to a game-ceiling interception.
The loss didn’t help Beck’s draft stock, but it did show that he can perform at a high level with talent around him. In his ability to run the pro-style offense, NFL teams will take a deep look at Beck and see him as a player who can be a game-managing type starter. With his accuracy and quick processing ability, the ceiling for Beck is a long-term starter who will play the game with efficiency but won’t be seen as a player who can put a team on his shoulder (or arm) and win games.

NFL pro comparison:
Given his size and pocket presence, there is some likeness to Eli Manning. In fact, if Beck has the career Manning has in the NFL, he would be considered a Day 2 steal. The hope with Beck is he continues his redemption path and becomes the player he was when he was considered a top quarterback prospect.Â
So, to not put too much pressure on Beck by comparing him to a two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback, a fairer comparison is Matt Schaub who was similar in size and like Beck, excelled with his accuracy and high-volume passing yardage during his time in the NFL. A solid starter for the Houston Texans, Schaub was a two-time Pro Bowler who did lead the team to playoff performances. Like Schaub, Beck will have to wait his time and opportunity, but he is use to that in waiting his turn at the University of Georgia.
