Offensive line talent starts coming off the board
No. 17 Chicago Bears: Carter Smith, OT, Indiana
The Chicago Bears address the trenches with the No. 17 overall pick.
There is a need along the defensive line, but Chicago instead addresses the offensive side by making Indiana’s Carter Smith the first offensive tackle off the board.
Smith would represent a major upgrade at tackle while giving Caleb Williams the blind-side protection the Bears need to keep their franchise quarterback upright.
No. 18 Jacksonville Jaguars: A.J. Holmes Jr., DL, Texas Tech
Jacksonville boosts its defensive line with Texas Tech’s A.J. Holmes Jr. at No. 18.
With Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker solidifying the edge positions, the goal for the Jaguars should be finding an elite interior defender capable of clogging the middle and stuffing the run.
They get that in Holmes, a powerful interior lineman with an explosive first step and enough strength to consistently disrupt plays in the backfield.
No. 19 Houston Texans: Kewan Lacy, RB, Ole Miss
The Houston Texans land Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy with the No. 19 overall pick.
This is a great fit because Houston is looking for a running back who can take command of the lead role. Lacy rushed for 61 yards on 17 carries in the Week 1 opener against Louisville before leaving late in the third quarter with a thigh bruise.
The injury will be something to watch, but at full strength, Lacy is a powerhouse back with third-down versatility and the combination of speed and elusiveness to take it to the house from anywhere on the field.
No. 20 Denver Broncos: Jamari Johnson, TE, Oregon
Bo Nix gets another weapon from Oregon with the selection of Jamari Johnson.
The 6-foot-5, 255-pound tight end projects as the top player at his position in the 2027 NFL Draft. After a breakout 2025 season in which he caught 32 passes for 510 yards and three touchdowns, Johnson has an opportunity to bask in the spotlight following the departure of Kenyon Sadiq.
In the Week 1 opener against Boise State, Johnson caught four passes for 57 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown.
Broncos fans can imagine a similar connection developing between Nix and Johnson as Denver finally lands the tight end threat it has been looking for.
No. 21 Cincinnati Bengals: Trevor Goosby, OT, Texas
The second offensive tackle off the board is Texas’ Trevor Goosby.
A true anchor on the left side of the offensive line, Goosby would make Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow a happy man by offering blind-side protection and an eventual replacement for Orlando Brown Jr.
Brown is on the other side of 30 and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2029. Selecting Goosby would give Cincinnati flexibility while preparing for the future at one of the most important positions on the roster.
No. 22 New England Patriots: Yhonzae Pierre, EDGE, Alabama
The New England Patriots have had success drafting Alabama players. Could Yhonzae Pierre be the next star to go from Tuscaloosa to Foxborough?
While 2026 second-round pick Gabe Jacas had a solid debut and recorded a sack in the Patriots’ 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, New England could still use more talent at edge rusher.
Pierre has the size, athleticism and relentless motor in his pursuit of the quarterback to provide reinforcement off the edge. Along with Jacas, he would add even more youth and upside to the position.
No. 23 Philadelphia Eagles: Jordan Seaton, OT, LSU
The Philadelphia Eagles are another team looking for a successor to a longtime star at tackle.
With the No. 23 overall pick, they select Jordan Seaton as the eventual replacement for Lane Johnson.
As an NFL-ready pass protector, Seaton has the wingspan and upper-body strength to be a strong anchor from either side of the line.
This pick should have Eagles fans flying high.
No. 24 Los Angeles Chargers: A’Mauri Washington, DL, Oregon
The Los Angeles Chargers have been solid against the run, but imagine if they had a true disruptor in the middle?
They get that with A’Mauri Washington.
The signing of Dalvin Tomlinson, who pairs with Teair Tart in the middle, gives Los Angeles a short-term solution. Washington would provide the long-term answer with his ability to stuff the run and collapse the pocket with his massive frame and explosiveness off the snap.
