The wait for the 2026 NFL Draft continues to get shorter, and news surrounding the big day has only ramped up. Teams are always working the phones with plenty of deals getting done, giving Day 1 of the draft an unmatched chaotic energy. With so many questions surrounding this year's draft class, all fans can do is expect the unexpected.

Taking a wild look at the 2026 NFL Draft, here's a potential trade-heavy 1st round mock draft!

2026 NFL Mock Draft: Trades lead the way as the 1st round takes unexpected turns

No. 1: Las Vegas Raiders – Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana

A pick that has been decided since they officially locked up the top spot in the draft, Mendoza will be tasked with leading the charge in a much-needed Las Vegas rebuild. The only question at this point in time is when the Heisman winner will see the field for the first time.

No. 2: New York Jets – Arvell Reese, LB, Ohio State

Reese raised some questions with some questionable bend during a video released from his drillwork at his pro day, but he's far from a prospect Jets fans should lose sleep over if they take him at No. 2 overall. He's a dominant defender who can thrive in multiple alignments and has the defensive presence to be a game-changer on the New York front seven.

No. 3: Arizona Cardinals – Francis Mauigoa, OT, Miami

This pick has recently lost some steam as analysts have explored the possibility of Arizona investing into the defensive side of the ball, but the Miami tackle still makes a world of sense as they reshape their offense. Mauigoa may be the top tackle in the class, filling a big hole on the Cardinals' offensive line as they prepare for a long-term quarterback solution in the near future.

No. 4: Washington Commanders via Tennessee Titans – Rueben Bain Jr., EDGE, Miami

The first of many major trades in this mock draft, it's widely expected that the Giants will take the best defender on the board at No. 5, and Bain Jr. could be their choice if he remains available. Washington added some pass-rush help in free agency, but they still need to upgrade the group in a significant way. Jumping New York here may be aggressive simply for the sake of being aggressive, but if they like the player enough, they could make a move to secure the Hurricanes' superstar.

No. 5: New York Giants – Sonny Styles, LB, Ohio State

Styles could wind up as the best pure defender taken when it's all said and done, and is the type of player that could revitalize the New York defense nearly singlehandedly. Washington's trade could force their hand to pick the Buckeye, if that wasn't already their preferred choice, and they would be adding an advanced, playmaking linebacker.
