AFC East curse?: Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills have another foe to face
Is Josh Allen doomed in the NFL?
Well, ESPN pointed out an interesting fact this week that should worry Bills Mafia. According to the sports media mogul, “56 percent of past Madden cover athletes saw at least an 80-point decline in PPR fantasy production in the season they were selected (for the cover).”
With the Buffalo Bills star quarterback gracing the cover of Madden 24, fantasy production is least on the mind of a team primed to get to the Super Bowl. While Allen’s production is key, his health is the prime concern as that “Madden Curse” has resulted in 37 percent of those players suffering a significant injury.
The latter part of the curse is the prime concern because of Allen’s scrambling ability. One big hit could end the Super Bowl hopes for the Bills in 2023. So, along with the AFC East getting more competitive, the Bills do have this “Madden Curse” over their head and Allen is facing more pressure to lead his team to the promise land.

Of course, he can’t do it alone. The Bills still have one of the more explosive offenses in the division with Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis and tight ends Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid giving Allen plenty of weapons to get the ball to.
But, for the Bills offense to be successful and to take some of the pressure off Allen to run the ball, Buffalo needs a running back to emerge. James Cook is in that position, but can former Patriots running back Damien Harris help create another two-head monster in the AFC East?
That would certainly help Josh Allen avoid that “Madden Curse.”
Speaking of injuries…the team down in South Beach avoided a major one this past week.
