Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill says he doesn’t watch film; uses Madden to scout
By Hunter Haas
Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is always a headlining quote waiting to happen. He made waves when claiming Tua Tagovailoa is more accurate than Patrick Mahomes last year. He has promised 2,000 yards all off-season. And on Thursday, Hill had perhaps the funniest quote of his career, courtesy of the Madden video game franchise.
Tyreek Hill Admits To Using Madden For Scouting
The South Beach superstar got asked about his pregame preparation regarding watching game film. ‘Reek’ replied with his trademark storytelling. “Nah, so I feel like Madden has a pretty good tell of how good players are. So I just play Madden the night before — and I go look at all their ratings.”
The 2022 All-Pro wideout continued, “So, let’s say for instance they have Steve Nelson and Derek Stingley over there — two phenomenal players, by the way. Um, I just get on Madden. I go to the EA rosters, and I scroll down to see what their awareness is, what their speed is, and their strength. And that’s how I get a good intel on them.”
The video game world is just as expansive as the football world — if not more so. The lines between them are starting to blend as ESports continues its boon in popularity. Twitch streamers love to play endless hours of Madden, with some high-profile NFL players even dipping their toes into the virtual sphere.
Kyler Murray and Tyreek Hill are only a couple of the many names to spend their time off the field playing Madden but rarely has any player admitted to using the video game to prepare for the actual games. It should come as no surprise though, as Hill has always been an unconventional player and personality.
Can The Miami Dolphins Get A Career Year From Hill In 2023?
It sounds like pure insanity on the surface, but who am I to question a receiver the caliber of Hill? It would be like telling a doctor they are wrong about their medical diagnosis. If it has worked to this point, the once-fifth-round pick should keep doing it.
The Miami Dolphins will open the 2023 regular season on Sept. 10 in Los Angeles. The Chargers present a formidable opponent for the season opener, so expect Tyreek Hill to see targets early and often. If he wants to reach that lofty 2,000-yard prediction, a successful Week 1 is necessary.
