Freak Show At OL

There are two clear players to talk about along the offensive line, two players who could be the first tackles (and offensive linemen) off the board in the 2023 NFL Draft. Those guys are Paris Johnson Jr. and Broderick Jones. Johnson is just a spectacular athlete in both phases, and his quicks and linear explosiveness should yield great numbers. Jones looks fast, and could lead tackles in the 40-yard dash and dominate in explosion and agility drills.

It’s going to be important for Peter Skoronski, whose arm length will be the talk of the tackles once they are measured. Skoronski has short arms, but proving he’s the athlete many believe he is will stamp the idea that he’s still a tackle.

Jaelyn Duncan was tabbed as the big time riser from back in the summer, and while it didn’t materialize, his draft process started out strong in Mobile. Now, the NFL Scouting Combine awaits a player who should put up quite good numbers in agilities and explosion drills.

Anton Harrison is a tremendous athlete as well from Oklahoma, and he could stamp round one in the 2023 NFL Draft with a great week. The Zion Nelson, Blake Freeland, and Dawand Jones numbers will be interesting too.

Wisconsin center Joe Tippman is a rare athlete for the position, as his initial quicks, impressive movement on a curvilinear arc, and explosion/linear speed might be the recipe for a top-of-the-top athlete along the offensive line.

Andrew Vorhees should test extremely well at guard too. There’s some divisiveness surrounding him, particularly with the power profile at times, but his combine should be tremendous.

An important number to watch for this week is the short shuttle times. As Underdog Fantasy’s Josh Norris has often pointed out, the 4.47 number for short shuttles is a pretty darn good predictor of future success. Keep that in mind for these guys while the NFL Scouting Combine.
