Running Back Speed

Get ready, cause we’ll get a really good look at how deep the running back class is at the scouting combine. The only thing is, while the class is incredible, we might not have the ridiculously fast group we might be expecting.

The outlier to that is Texas A&M’s Devon Achane, who has run a recorded 10.02 in the 100 meter (wind-aided), and a 10.20 into the wind. The speed is incredible from Achane, and there’s talk about him threatening the record. The start will determine a lot of it, but the speed he reaches at 30 yards will be a fun number to see. Sub-4.4 is almost guaranteed, but we’ll see on the record.

Jahmyr Gibbs could potentially threaten sub-4.4 as well, and his agility numbers will be impressive as well. The measurables will be the most important part of the week to some, as many wait to see if he clears the desired 200 pounds.

Bijan Robinson and Zach Charbonnet should both post impressive numbers, and Tyjae Spears is already the darling of the process. Will that continue? His agility stuff should be great. Roschon Johnson, health-willing, could really put up phenomenal numbers for his size (6004, 225).

Others that are interesting include Sean Tucker, who has impressive explosion and long speed, Israel Abanikanda (speed), and Kenny McIntosh. Watch out for East Carolina running back Keaton Mitchell as well.

UPDATE: Zach Evans will miss drills due to a hamstring strain.
