Team No. 1 – New York Jets

The New York Jets will find a veteran quarterback this offseason, but should they make a move for Lamar Jackson? Short answer: absolutely.

The Jets boast an exciting core of young talent, led by Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year — Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner. Quarterback play kept the team from making a run at a postseason berth in 2022, so adding a player of Jackson’s caliber could put the roster over the top.

Insert the former NFL MVP into the lineup, and New York becomes a viable threat in the stacked AFC. With the emergence of the Dolphins, the steady play of the Patriots, and the dominant Bills, a swing for Jackson would level the playing field in the division.

A trade for Jackson will take multiple first-round picks at a minimum, so No. 13 overall in 2023 and the 2024 first-rounder is the starting point. Add in a couple of day-two picks to the deal and that might get the job done.

Owner Woody Johnson already said he would pay ‘whatever it takes’ for a franchise quarterback, so the money will not be a concern here if the Jets can carve out enough cap space.
