6 Landing Spots for Derek Carr That Could Shape the 2023 NFL Draft

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
With the retirement of Tom Brady, the Buccaneers have a massive question mark at quarterback, and will need to decide if they go with a veteran and reload, or draft a rookie and kick off a small rebuild. Tampa Bay has the No. 19 overall pick, so outside of a trade up scenario, it is hard to envision them drafting a quarterback.
Considering how weak the NFC South was last year, it may be worth it to sign Carr in order to stay competitive and relevant in a not particularly deep NFC. With two great receivers and a talented defense, the Buccaneers could rebound with Carr at quarterback in 2023, and could use the first-round pick to address other concerns, such as the offensive line or running back positions.
New York Giants
Brian Daboll got the most out of former first-round pick Daniel Jones in his first season as the Giants’ head coach. While the team could look to resign the Duke product, signing Carr could add another dimension to a dynamic offense that performed well without top-end talent at most positions. New York has one of the better offensive lines and defenses, both of which should be enticing for any quarterback. The front office still needs to figure out if they are going to resign Saquon Barkley or not, but nonetheless, the only position that will need a huge upgrade with Carr at quarterback would be the wide receiver room.
Whether they use the No. 26 overall pick to draft a pass catcher or sign one this offseason, Carr could come into a team that made the playoffs a season ago with question marks all over the field. The NFC East is one of the deeper divisions in football, but adding the former Raider could take them to the next step that the Eagles and, to a lesser degree, the Cowboys were on in 2022.
