Legit Super Bowl Threats in 2022

-Let’s start with the reigning AFC Champions, the Cincinnati Bengals. By all accounts, the team will be vastly improved compared to the roster that made their way to the Super Bowl a few months ago. They added reinforcements on the offensive line, signing Alex Cappa, Ted Karras, and La’el Collins, three guys expected to start and provide immediate upgrades.

Furthermore, they added Daxton Hill to pair with superstar safety Jessie Bates. I have a slight hesitancy to predict that they replicate their run from last season, but given the boost to the roster, and an expected improvement from Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase, I cannot ignore the possibilities. The AFC is a murderers row of competitive teams, so it won’t be easy, but Burrow is a winner… plain and simple.

-The Los Angeles Chargers, like the aforementioned Bengals, made some superb moves to surround their star quarterback while still on a rookie deal. The first major move came when the Bolts traded their second-round selection for Khalil Mack from the Chicago Bears. They did not stop there, as they went on to sign cornerback JC Jackson away from the New England Patriots, giving the Chargers another top end talent on the roster.

In the NFL Draft, general manager Tom Telesco drafted the monstrous offensive lineman, Zion Johnson, to help protect Justin Herbert. The Chargers plugged seemingly every hole, and they did it with high upside talent at each spot. The AFC West will be a dogfight, but with Herbert still ascending, this team might just be ready to take that next step towards competing for a championship.

-The 12th and final team is the most likely to win in 2022: the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen versus Patrick Mahomes is a debate that has been brewing over the past 12 months. I’ll let you guys decide who you think is better, but the fact that it’s a conversation says a lot about how great Josh Allen is… given how much Mahomes has already accomplished in his short career.

The front office in Buffalo knows they’ve got a special player, and they wisely continued to add talent to a roster that was a coin flip away from a second straight AFC Title game. The biggest addition was easily the former Super Bowl MVP, and one of the best pass rushers of all time, Von Miller. Fresh off a second Super Bowl victory, in which Miller led the Rams in sacks, Von has said he’s ready to win a third and that he believes the Bills are the next up.

Rodger Saffold is another veteran that came over after a strong 2021 season, and will instantly slot in as the starter at left guard. The draft brought in a couple rookies that will make immediate impacts as well, cornerback Kaiir Elam and running back James Cook. As good as the Bengals and Chargers are, the Buffalo Bills are my pick to be the next team to win their first Super Bowl.
