Commanders (8 picks):

1:16 – Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State

2:15 – Phidarian Mathis, DL, Alabama

3:34 – Brian Robinson Jr., RB, Alabama

4:08 – Percy Butler, Safety, Louisiana

5:01 – Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina

5:06 – Cole Turner, TE, Nevada

7:09 – Chris Paul, OL, Tulsa

7:19 – Christian Holmes, CB, Oklahoma State

The Washington Commanders’ offseason mantra is: The Start of a New Era. The front office did all they could to swing big for Russell Wilson, but those efforts fell on deaf ears. They quickly shifted their focus to a different veteran quarterback, Indianapolis Colts signal-caller, Carson Wentz. The Commanders traded a third-round pick in 2022, and a conditional third rounder in 2023 that becomes a second rounder if Wentz plays more than 70% of the snaps.

Now with a quarterback in place, the team is doing their best to support him. Jahan Dotson forms an exciting duo with Terry McLaurin. It can be argued that Wentz has never had two receivers on the same team of their caliber. A couple Alabama players, defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis and running back Brian Robinson Jr., both will see time this upcoming season.

Sam Howell is a great insurance piece to bring in as well, considering Wentz hasn’t made it through an entire season healthy in quite some time. Aside from Dotson’s high upside, and the dart throw of Sam Howell, the group as a whole just feels solid and the grade reflects that.
