4. Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are a true wild card in the Deebo Samuel sweepstakes. They are clearly in a rebuild after trading away Matt Ryan, and have five picks in the top 82 in the 2022 NFL Draft. So why would they want Deebo Samuel?

Well for one, if the Falcons are looking to upgrade the wide receiver room in the draft, they’re better off looking at Samuel. While this class looks deep, there are few players who have the potential to end up as WR1s. Role players as WR2s, slot guys, deep threats, and red zone targets will be available.

An offensive skill unit in Samuel, Kyle Pitts, and Cordarrelle Patterson would be lethal and create stress on matchups. If it takes a couple second-rounders, then the Falcons could look to move back from pick eight and still have enough assets in a deep class to take advantage of rebuilding the roster. Once the roster is built up, get the quarterback, and you’re cooking.

5. Indianapolis Colts

The last team here are the usually frugal Indianapolis Colts. Chris Ballard has definitely hinted at the possibility of adding talent to the receiver room early in the 2022 NFL Draft, and it could be the case at pick 42. The front office has been aggressive at quarterback. Why not add a guy who can contribute at all levels of the field in Deebo Samuel, who instantly becomes the WR1? Samuel and Michael Pittman Jr. would form a great duo for Ryan, and they’ve got a top guy in Jonathan Taylor who makes the offense multi-dimensional.

They’re a wild card because of frugality, yes, but the Colts have long avoided a splash, and maybe it’s time to get it done.
