Round 3, 87th Overall: Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State

Arizona’s top two tight ends, Zach Ertz and Maxx Williams are both set to be free agents this offseason. It’s unlikely that the Arizona Cardinals will bring either of them back, as Ertz is 32 and Williams has been plagued by injuries throughout his entire career.

Taking Colorado State’s Trey McBride in the third round of this 2022 NFL Mock Draft is an apt solution to Arizona’s potential dearth of tight ends. McBride was the best tight end in the country last year, as he won the Mackey Award for the nation’s best tight end and was a consensus and unanimous All-American. His numbers were exemplary, as he racked up 90 catches for 1,121 yards for the Rams.

Trey McBride is widely considered the best tight end in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he’s the first tight end off the board in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, with the 23rd pick of the third round. He’s been compared to Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, as they are similar in size, play style, and draft profile (Andrews was the 86th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft).

If Trey McBride can come close to matching the pro production of Mark Andrews, who is a two-time Pro Bowler and made first team All-Pro last season, the Arizona Cardinals will be getting a steal at this point in the draft.
