The Tennessee Titans fell short of the ultimate goal once again, despite landing the AFC’s top seed. Is it possible that they begin a QB search?

The Tennessee Titans found a way to get the number one seed in the AFC, securing the bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. None of that helped, as the Titans were bounced from the postseason by the Bengals, 19-16 as time expired.

Tennessee has played some good football the last few seasons, but they’ve ultimately come up short in the postseason, most notably two years ago when they had a lead over the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.

In this one, though, Ryan Tannehill will take the biggest slice of blame pie. He threw three interceptions, one of which was on the first play. His second wasn’t totally on him, but a late throw on their final drive, one that could’ve set up their own game winning field goal, ultimately doomed them.

We surround so much talk at the quarterback position, and it’s a nuanced take when it comes to succeeding in the postseason. There are several exceptions to the rule, but ultimately, quarterbacks have to be sharp in the postseason. Tannehill wasn’t on Sunday, and it brings up the question. Can this unit win with play action and Derrick Henry carrying them?

It’s a tough question. While this formula gets them to the postseason, keeping up with offenses that have Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen leading the way is a tough task. They did enough on defense to win Saturday and still didn’t get it done.

The 2022 NFL Draft might not be the place to do it for the Tennessee Titans, and maybe running it back in 2022 is fine with help along the offensive line and in the secondary. But eventually, a conversation has to be started with Tannehill in his 30s. Maybe nothing comes of the discourse this offseason, but a conversation getting started makes plenty of sense.
